Chinese Taipei deserved qualification, says Chan

Tangerang Regency: Three-time champions Chinese Taipei confirmed their spot at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ after beating Indonesia 2-1 in their Qualifiers Group D decider on Saturday.

Head coach Chan Hiu Meng believes that Chinese Taipei’s achievement in securing a second straight Finals appearance is one that is warranted given the drive and focus that the squad has shown towards this path.

"We deserved this victory as it’s the result of our hard work over the past two years,” said Chan. “Everyone has put in blood and tears in this team."

“Every player has performed very well, whether in practice or in the game.

“At the same time, some players such as Ting Chi, Ting Chia-ying, Wu Kaiqing, Lan Yu-chieh, and Zhuo Li-ping were unable to come to Indonesia due to injuries, but they are still part of this team.

“I hope they can recover and return to the team."

The win over Indonesia saw the East Asian side matching fellow qualified teams in DPR Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh and India in achieving qualification with a perfect run of wins.

Chan will have a chance to further assess his players as they now turn their attention towards the EAFF E-1 Football Championship that will begin on Wednesday with Chinese Taipei starting their campaign against Asia’s top-ranked side, Japan.
