Qualifiers - Group A: Bhutan 3-2 Singapore
Amman: Bhutan fought back to beat Singapore 3-2 in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ Qualifiers Group A match on Monday.
Bhutan will next face Lebanon while Singapore take on Islamic Republic of Iran, with both matches to be played on Thursday.
Bhutan got off to a fantastic start, taking the lead inside the opening minute when Yeshey Bidha latched onto a poor clearance to slam home into the bottom corner past Singapore custodian Nur Izarida Shakira.
Singapore bounced back to draw level nine minutes later when Nur Farhanah Ruhaizat broke the offside trap then saw her low shot stopped by Bhutan goalkeeper Sangita Monger but Ardhra Ganeswaran was on hand to tap in the rebound.
The Southeast Asian side turned the game around in the 26th minute after Dorji Edon’s back pass was miscontrolled by Monger, with the ball rolling into an unguarded net.Chasing the game, Bhutan wasted a good opportunity to draw level following a two versus one situation with Dheki Lhazom’s effort well blocked by Nur Izarida as Singapore kept the lead at the break.
Two minutes into the second half, Singapore went close to adding another goal after Nur Farhanah was put through but Monger was quick to come out and close down the space.Bhutan also had a chance with substitute Tshering Choden going close after she broke into the box but fired her shot straight at Nur Izarida.
The South Asian side, however, were not to be denied in the 67th minute as Sonam Choden’s outswinging corner kick was perfect for Edon to nod home the equaliser.
Bhutan kept going and eventually found the winner in the 87th minute when Lhazom smacked a long range effort against the crossbar, with Sunita Rai at the right place to flick home the rebound.
