AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ breaks new record as tournament crowds surpass 200,000

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ has reached another historic milestone, setting a new record for the highest attendance ever recorded for an AFC Women’s Asian Cup match featuring two non-host nations, as total tournament attendance soars past 200,000.

A crowd of 12,974 fans attended the Korea Republic v Uzbekistan Quarter Final at Stadium Australia on Saturday night, setting the new benchmark, before it was quickly surpassed today when 13,321 fans turned out to see the Japan v Philippines Quarter Final clash at the same venue.

The previous record for a match featuring two non-host nations was10,000, set in 2014 in Vietnam when Australia met Japan in the Final.

This capped off a landmark weekend for the tournament, with a cumulative attendance surpassing 200,000, as the Quarter Finals wrapped up on Sunday. The Japan-Philippines match lifting the overall figure to 223,112, coming just a day after the competition marked its 400th match with Korea Republic’s win over Uzbekistan.

The tournament has also now surpassed 300,000 tickets sold, reflecting the strong demand from fans and the incredible support for women’s football across Australia.

These achievements further cement the 2026 edition in Australia as the most highly attended edition of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™ in history with the Semi Finals and Final still to come.

Australia will now take on defending champions and nine-time winners China PR in a highly anticipated blockbuster Semi Final on Tuesday night at Perth Stadium, before Korea Republic face Japan in the other Semi Final on Wednesday at Stadium Australia.

Two places at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup also remain up for grabs with Uzbekistan, Philippines, Chinese Taipei and DPR Korea all in the hunt. The Play Offs will be held at Gold Coast Stadium.

The Final at Stadium Australia on March 21 will see Asia’s continental champion crowned, bringing together thousands of fans for a spectacular conclusion to the most successful AFC Women’s Asian Cup™ ever staged.
